Accounting Manager – Full-Time, Exempt
Reid and Riege, P.C., a mid-sized law firm based in Connecticut, is seeking a self-starting, experienced accounting professional to lead and manage the Firm’s accounting and finance department. This is a key leadership position that will play a central role in financial strategy and operations. Reporting to the Director of Administration and the Firm’s Board of Directors, the Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of the Firm’s accounting functions and play a strategic role in financial planning and decision-making.
Accounting Operations Oversight
Manage all client accounting processes including:
Client/matter intake, conflicts, and credit screening
Time entry and billing
Accounts receivable and collections
Cash application and related adjustments
Unbilled and billed account analysis and reporting
Accounts payable processing
Ensure timely and accurate month-end closings and financial reporting to management and shareholders
Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and operational analyses as directed
Financial Management & Compliance
Oversee trust account transactions and perform monthly reconciliations
Coordinate with external accounting firm on tax return preparation and ad hoc financial requests
Leadership & Staff Supervision
Supervise and provide direction to accounting staff
Ensure effective cross-training and staff development
Foster a collaborative, respectful team environment
Process Improvement & Strategic Support
Identify and implement process improvements within the department
Support the Director of Administration in all business and financial matters
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a professional services or law firm setting
In-depth understanding of accounting principles and practices, including general ledger, A/P, billing, and collections
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines with sound judgment and attention to detail
Experience with legal accounting systems; Orion experience preferred
Knowledge of law firm operations, billing practices, and compliance policies
High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
